Old Tape Anime is run by three people who like early animation and own too many VCRs. It started in 2021 as a shared folder and became a site because the folder kept getting lost.

We only publish films whose copyright has expired in Japan, which for cinema of this period means everything released before 1953. We do not publish anything newer, and every file on a film page is one we transferred ourselves.

If you hold a tape, a print or a scan of a film from this era and want it preserved, get in touch. We will transfer it, return it, and credit you or not as you prefer.
