Chinkoroheibei Tamatebako

Masaoka moved Japanese animation from cut-outs to cels and sound, and this is one of his early sound shorts. The underwater sequence is drawn with far more care than the story needs.

Sources disagree on the exact release year (1936 or 1937). The copy here is from a print scan; the soundtrack has a constant hum we could not remove without damaging the music.

This is the one entry with no web copy yet: what we hold is the raw capture the scanner wrote, a transport stream that plays in VLC or mpv but not in a browser. Re-wrapping it is on the list.
